Look for the Helpers

Hi Everyone,

It is with a heavy heart that I share my partners at Revolution and I have decided to reschedule our event tomorrow.

There are no words for the sadness we are all feeling about the racist terrorist attack that took place this past weekend. It has shaken us as a community, and I want to give us all the space we need to process and reflect on how we can combat racism in our own lives.

One of my daughter’s favorite shows is Daniel Tiger, a reboot of the iconic Mister Rogers tv show. And recently I’ve been thinking about Mister Rogers because he always says in moments of tragedy to look for the helpers- and we are lucky here in Buffalo to be surrounded by incredible helpers who are making a difference.

Here is a group of Black owned organizations as suggested by the Buffalo Community Fridge who are doing great work and are in need of support:

  • WNY Mobile Ops - A Black woman owned organization offering harm reduction to marginalized communities.

  • Colored Girls Bike Too - a radical cycling organization advocating for mobility, justice, & liberation in marginalized communities and promotes healing of Black/of color Women & GNBfolks, by bike.

  • Rooted in Love, Inc - focused on assisting homelessness and under privileged folks in the WNY area by providing access to fresh produce, and hygiene products free of charge.

  • Black Love Resists in the Rust - an intergenerational political home for Black and brown people in Buffalo, NY.

While I know this has been a hard week for Buffalo, I’m ready for difficult feelings and conversations. For continuing to do my part to end white supremacy in my own life- at the polls, through my dollar, and with my time. As a part of the city of good neighbors, I’m pushing forward to be just that, and I hope you’ll join me.

When I have the details about the new date for our event, I’ll share with you as soon as I know. If you’d like your ticket refunded I’m happy to do that, or I can hold your ticket for the new date just let me know what you prefer.

All my love,

Erin
